What should leaders be doing now to build their personal brand?

I recently spoke to Thinkers360 when they asked if I would share a few thoughts on personal branding for leaders.

3 Key elements that have been validated as being more important than ever before during the pandemic are:

  • visibility

  • authenticity

  • trust

Whether you are revamping your brand or are starting from scratch, be clear as to what you stand for, who you are and what your goals are.

Once you know what your goals are and what you want to be known for, it’s time to tell your story and grow your online presence.

Although both face to face networking and digital are important, I wanted to focus on the online part. Your story should always match across the different platforms you choose to use and consistency is key.

A personal brand is more than just what you do, it's about who you are and who you are associated with, as your reputation is everything. Leaders inspire and fascinate their audiences and circles both in front and behind the cameras.

As you build and grow your personal brand, remember to never stop evolving. We live in a world with a plethora of tools to share our message. Use them.!

Write articles, collaborate with others, do podcasts, videos, speak at events, use socials, the choice is yours.

Part of branding is creating content that is valuable to others and this is where authenticity comes into play. Because we also live in a world of talkers and copycats, those who talk to the talk, but never walk the walk.

If you ARE proud of who you are and what you do, it should be easy to just share and translate what is in your head to pen and paper.

The only way to be known as a leader is to share your own views, thoughts, insights and opinions with the world.

Once you do this, remember the 3 C's of branding:

  • Clarity

  • Consistency

  • Character

I will focus on these 3 C's another day ;)

So be you… be unique… and be awesome
