You’ve heard me talk about drone technology in the past; I have written about it; I have been fortunate to watch many shows across the world over the years, and you know I am a big fan of these amazing storytellers in the sky.
Drones have moved beyond being just novelty props for content creators. Now, they're a key part of amusement parks, public celebrations, and themed entertainment. Fireworks alone are no longer the main attraction at big events.
As I've said before, technology is now used to enrich experiences and enrich our culture, not just to show off. For me, it's always about the impact something has, not just how impressive it looks.
A lot of effort goes into safety, regulations, and creativity. Top drone companies handle permissions, think about the environment, and look at the bigger picture. You might not always hear about it, but their teams work hard to keep everyone safe.
Sometimes, people get upset when a drone show is canceled due to weather, but safety always comes first. I really respect the engineers who have to make tough calls at the last minute, since no one can control the weather.
Every new show pushes the field forward, using more drones, more complex choreography, and more ways to express ideas. The sky is turning into a new kind of canvas for art.
In a world full of negativity and tragedy, we all need a few minutes to disconnect and just enjoy good, happy vibes.
It’s been 4 years since I first came across Dronisos’s work, and since then, I have watched their shows countless times. They combine three of my favorite things. Music, entertainment, and technology.
Many people have seen their shows around the world, but few know the names of those behind them. They’ve worked with Disney, Legoland, Petit Prince Reggio di Calabria, Bastille Day, UNOC, Legoland, Tour De France, Epic Universe, Marvel, Coca-Cola, and many, many more. They’ve been featured on the Jimmy Fallon show, and they even have a Guinness World Record
Although I had seen other drone shows before, 4 years ago was the first time I was so mesmerized that I had to Google who was behind the scenes creating that amazing work from a technical perspective.
In this conversation with Fabrice N’Kom, Dronisos VP Sales & Marketing, we discuss drone technology, their most recent work with Disney at Disneyland Paris with the incredible 360-degree experience Cascade of Lights show, which is a world first with new drones, lower flying performances, and my favorites, the “ducks”!, new aquatic drones, which combined with water effects, lights, and music, create a very unique experience.
We also discuss the demand for drone-based entertainment, the balance between creativity and operational constraints, what differentiates drones as a storytelling medium, and the role of autonomy and AI.
We all need to feel joy and happiness in the world we live in, and this is one way technology helps create that.
At Dronisos, it is the combined effort of artists, storytellers, and engineers coming together to do what they do and create the magic that made me want to dig deeper into their story.
Stay tuned until the end and enjoy their incredible showreel. I'm leaving you a couple of links to articles you might enjoy where I mention Drone technology.
